Date published: 02 September 2016

James Cannings, 19, has become GMP’s youngest ever Special Constable after being attested by Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts at a ceremony on Thursday night.

Special Constable Cannings, who lives in Rochdale and works as a customer service apprentice at Rochdale Hornets, said: “I joined GMP as a Special because I felt that my time as a Volunteer Police Cadet really made it clear to me that I ultimately wanted a career as a police officer.

“Becoming a Special Constable is an excellent opportunity to really put myself in a great position to chase my career dreams.”

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts said: “We are pleased that James has chosen to continue his time with Greater Manchester Police by becoming a Special Constable.

“Special Constables make an important impact and contribution to their local communities.”
