Thousands of pounds worth of stock stolen from Mama D's children’s clothing boutique

Date published: 31 August 2016

Mama D’s children’s clothing boutique in Heywood had thousands of pounds worth of stock stolen on Friday (27 August) after burglars broke in through the roof.

The thieves removed tiles and cut a hole in the roof, which they used to enter the shop.

They took over £6,000 pounds worth of clothing, mainly for boys, including designer items by Mayoral, Le Chic, 3pommes and Dolce Petit. Girls’ and babies’ shoes were also stolen. Eleven suitcases were taken, as were "irreplaceable customer orders".

Owner Kerry Latto, 38, believes the items were carried away in the cases. She said: “I can’t replace the items as I have to order them in advance from the supplier, who make a limited release.

“Deposits will be refunded, but this has come out of my own pocket and will affect my children.”

The single mother of six has been offered temporary space in Oldham at her friend’s store, Shabby Vintique. Whilst Ms Latto is grateful for the support, this means she is now much further away from her children and childminder, which concerns her should there be an emergency.

Repairs at Mama D’s are expected to take around two weeks, including a carpet refit and a fresh coat of paint. Ms Latto also plans to install CCTV cameras, alarms and motion detection alarms, which will alert her and up to five other people if there is an intruder.

She hopes she can recover the items and is appealing for any information, especially if the thieves attempt to sell the stolen clothes.
