Man rescued and taken to hospital after falling into pond

A man was taken to Hope Hospital with a head injury after falling into a pond in Heywood on Tuesday (30 August).

Police were called out to the incident on Omrod Road shortly before 4.30pm.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “It is believed he had been fishing in the area.”

Fire engines from Rochdale and Chadderton were joined by a Water Incident Unit from Heywood to rescue the man. A nine metre ladder, two inflatable rescue paths and a long board stretcher were used.
