Christine Cavanagh, whose son Daniel Cavanagh was killed in an industrial accident in a freight warehouse on Stakehill Industrial Estate.

The family of Daniel Cavanagh still has unanswered questions following his death whilst at work in Middleton.

Daniel, 31, who leaves behind a 13-year-old son, died after being struck by a lorry at his workplace, freight forwarding service Culina at Stakehill Industrial Estate on Wednesday 13 April.

An inquest into the cause of Daniel's death is ongoing and a date for the hearing is due to be set in September.

The family of the "bubbly, cheeky" dad-of-one is organising a benefit event to raise funds for Daniel's only son Nathan, who lives in Rochdale with his mum Natalie Benson.

Mum Christine Cavanagh, 50 , said: "We are all struggling.

"I keep going to text him and phone him because for a split second you just forget."

The Culina Group in a statement, said: "It is with regret that we can confirm that an incident occurred which unfortunately resulted in the fatality of a Culina employee.

"The incident took place in the warehouse yard area of the Culina depot in Middleton and the site was subsequently closed down while the police and emergency services were present.

"A full investigation is under way and Culina is co-operating fully with the authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this extremely sad time."

Friends of the keen footballer and Oldham Athletics fan have rallied round to help organise the benefit event in his memory, with one offering to DJ and another writing a song.

Mrs Kavanagh said: "He was a cheeky boy but he was loved by everybody.

"He was my first-born and I was very young when I had him.

"People said back then that I was making a mistake but I got on with it and now I am so glad that I did because he was not just my son - he was my best friend and my hero.

"There were hundreds and hundreds of people at the crematorium - it was like a celebrity.

"He broke a lot of hearts."

Friends and family are invited to attend the Oldham's Werneth Cricket Club on Saturday 17 September from 7pm until midnight.

Mrs Cavanagh said: "It is amazing how many people have approached me to help.

"We are organising this event for Nathan because he has been left behind.

"Daniel worshipped the ground that his son walked on."
