Heather Gee to complete Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer’s

Date published: 30 August 2016

Heather Gee will be taking part in the 2016 Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society at Heaton Park, Manchester next month.

More than 5,000 people took part in the walk last year, and Heather, alongside her boyfriend Macauley and dog Holly, will be amongst those completing the 10km challenge on 17 September this year.

Heather explained why this cause is so important to her: “We will be walking in memory of my Grandad, Alan, who sadly passed away ten years ago due to Alzheimer’s disease.

“We’re also taking part because my other Grandad, nicknamed Poppy, short for ‘Grandpops’ – which was what I used to call him when I was little – was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year.

“I’d heard about the walk before and after looking into a bit more, I thought it was a good idea.”

Heather, who has a £150 fundraising target, is expecting the 10km walk to take longer than usual though, as her West Highland Terrier pup Holly will be walking with her:

“I don’t know if she’ll be able to walk for that long so I’m going to do a few practice walks with her. She’s a bit of a nightmare for walking because she’s lazy and sniffs everything, so it may take a while, but it will all be worth it in the end.”

Several Memory Walks in aid of Alzheimer’s Society are taking place across the country in September and October this year.
