A change in the weather

Date published: 15 August 2016

This week will start off very warm and sunny for many, before it turns more unsettled by the weekend.

As expected the week has started on a fine note in many areas, although the airflow is from a southeasterly direction rather than the southerly from Spain and north Africa that had been expected last week. This means the air will not be as hot and humid as it could have been.

Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen said: "The first half of the week will be fine for most of us with plenty of warm sunshine and temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s Celsius, though 30C is no longer expected.

"It does not look like the fine spell will last into the coming weekend. From Wednesday onwards there will be a gradual change to more unsettled conditions from the southwest, particularly at the end of the week."

Conditions should remain fine in the far north and northeast of the UK until the weekend but elsewhere frontal systems are likely to bring some rain, which could be thundery at times. This coming weekend looks to be a marked contrast to the last few days with an area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic.

With a mix of fine weather and changeable conditions this week, there are still plenty of opportunities to get out and about.

There are plenty of events happening around the borough this weekend:

Local Events for Saturday 20 August include The Lee Rigby charity bike show and family weekender the mods and rockers, Feel Good Festival, local cricket matches, Bowling Competition

Local Events for Sunday 21 August include a Row to Rio Challenge, Jazz on a Sunday, Ride In Rock Out The 3rd, Bowlee Car Boot Sale
