Call for action as youths hurl “rocks” at passing traffic in Littleborough

Date published: 13 August 2016

Littleborough woman Jacqueline Lee is warning motorists after a gang of youths hurled “huge rocks” at her windscreen, just days after the same attack on her friend’s car, who had young children in the back.

Jacqueline said she was shocked that her windscreen didn’t go through after the attack on Thursday evening (11 August), leaving her determined to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour in the area.

She said: “There were about five boys, all about 15 or 16. You should have seen the size of the stone, I’m shocked it didn’t go right through the windscreen, honestly it was huge.

“It happened to my friend last week as well and she had kids in the car, what is wrong with these guys? It’s not even like it was late at night, it was about six or seven or something like that.”

She added: “I wasn’t for letting them get away with it and I chased them and found one of them in a garden up by St Mary’s but he denied doing it and blamed it on one of the others. I think people need to be on their guard – we need to catch them.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at 6.45pm to reports that a gang of youths were hurling rocks at passing traffic. One of the rocks hit a woman’s windscreen and almost put it through before they ran off.

“The woman managed to find one of them but they denied doing it. The incident took place on the junction between Featherstall Road and Whitelees Road in Littleborough."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 1712.
