Derek Patrick Joseph Flynn, whose death sparked controversy after he collapsed in his cell, died of pneumonia, an inquest concluded.
The 43-year-old inmate at Buckley Hall Prison collapsed and was found unconscious by prison staff in September 2015.
The inquest heard how Flynn sparked concern among staff when they heard a bang from his cell; when a guard went to his aid, he was lying on the floor.
Paramedics took him to Fairfield Hospital where he later died.
His death prompted a protest from fellow inmates within the prison grounds.
Flynn had a history of drug use and suffered from various conditions including COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
The inquest concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances around his death and no third party involvement, he died of natural causes.
