Pakeeza Woman’s Group presented with a cheque from former Mayor

Date published: 09 August 2016

The Pakeeza Woman’s Group has been presented with a cheque for £4,000 as one of the former Mayor, Councillor Surinder Biant’s, chosen charities.

Razia Shamim, chairperson of the group, said: “I would like to thank Surinder and Cecil Biant for the help and support they have provided for our group, especially in the last few years.

“The £4,000 from the Mayor's charity fund will help us to achieve our future objectives.”

The Pakeeza group was established after the Rochdale Asian Ladies group, which was run by Age Concern, could no longer run after its funding was withdrawn by the local council. It has since helped hundreds of its members with advice on housing, health and social issues.
