Flytipping in Ashworth Valley - has this come out of your kitchen?

Date published: 09 August 2016

Ashworth Valley is once again being used as a dumping ground by fly tippers.

Sheets of hardboard have been dumped along Ashworth Road and rubbish has been thrown down the side of the valley.

Near the caravan park there were boxes from kitchen units and kitchen tiles and over the side of the road down the valley more hardboard, empty boxes, a sofa and other rubbish.

Rochdale Online contacted the environmental health at the Council on Monday morning about the tipping, proving photos, they responded: "The Enforcement Team will look into this matter and take action on this information as soon as possible."

Residents say they have "lost all confidence in the council".

They said: "Part of the land that rubbish was dumped on over the weekend is, according to the Council, unadopted so have no obligation to pick up and is refusing to act.

"The same goes for land further up Ashworth Road, where when road surface was repaired, they proceeded to dump old road surface and seemed to set a precedent for other people to top up with their rubbish.

"We have had several attempts to get stuff collected from these areas but Council will not act so we have to put up with continued tipping.

"We have still had nothing from Council or acknowledgment about the rubbish on Ashworth Road over the weekend even though we told them we had photos."
