Beech House School narrowly missed out on the School Sports Award at the Education Business Awards at the Grange Hotel in St Paul’s, London.
The School Sports Award is awarded to the educational establishment in the UK that can demonstrate an outstanding commitment to developing the sporting skills of its students.
The Rochdale school were joint runners-up in the category, finishing second only to the Ellesmere College in Shropshire.
Headmaster Kevin Sartain was appearing at the event for the second time in three years, as Beech House were also nominated in the ‘Outstanding Progress Award for Independent Schools’ category in 2014. The school finished as joint runners-up on that occasion as well, where former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies MBE presented the ceremony.
Former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq was present at this year’s event and in a bid of encouragement to the school, she exclaimed: “Third time lucky!”
