Date published: 05 August 2016
People in the Borough of Rochdale spend less than a third of their disposable income on rent, a BBC investigation has found.
In Rochdale the median* annual gross salary is £24,097, leaving £1,629 a month after tax and National Insurance contributions. Experts recommend spending no more than 30% of this on housing, which would be £489.
An average studio flat costs £321 a month.
Renting a room in a shared property costs on average £375 a month.
A one-bedroom property costs about £388 a month while a two-bedroom home is about £458.
Analysis shows that in Greater Manchester, the 30% threshold is exceeded only in Salford, Trafford and Manchester city centre.
