Hair raising stunt is a close shave for Joanne Huszar

Joanne Huszar shaved her head to raise money for Springhill Hospice

Joanne Huszar has had her head shaved to raise money for Springhill Hospice.

Part of the catering team at St Patrick’s RC Primary School, Joanne chose the last day of term to go under the razor and the whole school were there to cheer her on along with Springy, the Hospice mascot.

Joanne said: “Springhill Hospice cared for my dad when he was ill and it is very close to our hearts at school because sadly we lost a colleague there a year ago. I have also had many friends affected by cancer. Shaving my head seemed the best way I could to show support for what they have been through. My hair will grow back but not everyone is so lucky.”

With support from staff and children, as well as many friends and family, this hair raising stunt netted a scalp tingling £692 for Springhill, money that will support the care provided for patients and their families.

Congratulating Joanne and the children in the school assembly, hospice fundraiser Barbara Lloyd said: “For us to feed one of our patients for a day with three tasty, home cooked and nutritious meals costs around £11. By supporting the Hospice this money will provide a full day’s meals for over two full months. Every penny that is raised for Springhill makes a valuable contribution to the work we do.”

Joanne’s verdict on her new look: “I quite like it. I might keep it this way.”
