Police investigating the death of a man in Rochdale are appealing for two men to come forward to assist with enquiries.

Shortly after 2.30am on Wednesday 3 August 2016, police were called to Roch Valley Way, Rochdale to reports of an unconscious man with head injuries.

The 52-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Further enquiries have established that the man was seen to collapse just after 2am and lay unconscious before two men approached him around 15 minutes later and tried to wake him.

After the man didn’t wake up, the two flagged another member of the public and an ambulance was called.

Police are now appealing for the two men, who are possibly in their late teens or early 20s, to come forward and assist with enquiries.

Detective Inspector Andrew Butterworth of GMP’s Rochdale borough said: “We have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s death which is currently being treated as unexplained.

“He was found unconscious in the street before being taken to hospital where he sadly died and I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to his family.

“Further enquiries carried out today have established that two men have approached the man at around 2:15am and attempted to wake him before flagging another member of the public.

“I would like to urge these two men to come forward and assist with our enquiries as they may hold key information to help us determine what happened.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 8549 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
