Date published: 03 August 2016

A man in his 20s was pulled out of Rochdale canal off Oldham Road last night (2 August).

Police, fire crews and paramedics rushed to the scene behind Wellfield Surgery at approximately 10.00pm to reports that the man was under water, but he had been pulled out alive when they arrived.

It is believed that he was pulled out by a passer-by. He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene, before being taken to Fairfield General Hospital.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two fire engines from Rochdale attended but that the matter was passed over to paramedics.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “A man in his 20s was revered from the canal and was taken for treatment at Fairfield General Hospital.”

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
