Lighthouse Project showcases its community activities in Cromer Mill

Date published: 03 August 2016

The Lighthouse Project recently showcased its work at a community open day in their temporary Cromer Mill premises.

Visitors were impressed with the new building and the wide range of activities and support that is available for people to use, from photography to knitting, and computers to cooking.

The move from the Warwick Mill to the Cromer was achieved in just 10 days from closing to re-opening.

Carl Roach, project director, said: "We want to say a massive thank you to the small army of volunteers, service uses and members of a local community payback team who made it happen. We couldn’t have done it without you.

“The space we have is a lot more than we had at the Warwick, which is great.

“Our new landlords have been very supportive.

“It has been a challenging 12 months since we first heard of our eviction from the Warwick Mill and we have spent a lot of time trying to solve this difficult puzzle, part of the space we have taken is a large 40,000 sqft warehouse, and if we could find a way of taking this on then we might be able to secure our long term future in the building.

“We want to spend our time focusing on developing the project and improving the services and support we offer to Middleton residents rather than having to look for premises, but until the property issue is resolved this will always be foremost in our minds.

The Lighthouse Project is open to all visitors between 10.00am – 4.00pm, no appointments are necessary and you can call in to get help and support, or to spend some time with a friend in a quiet and peaceful place.
