Anna Opincane visits Cambridge University

Date published: 01 August 2016

Anna Opincane, from Heywood, was among students who enjoyed an event at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge University where they developed new skills and gained a further understanding of university life.

The ‘Pathways to Success’ event is an annual celebration which is designed to encourage and inspire high-achieving young women to succeed academically in their chosen career paths and to consider all their options for the future.

Anna, 17, enjoyed a varied range of activities including a series of workshops, inspirational talks by former students of the universities, celebratory dinners, subject specific taster lectures, tours of the universities, discussions and socialising with undergraduates.

Anna, a former pupil at Oulder Hill who is studying A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Spanish at Bury College, said of the experience: “The event was a brilliant opportunity for me to try a range of different workshops. I was able to improve my interviewing confidence and learnt how to write a personal statement.”

Gill Campion, Learning Improvement Leader at Bury College said of the experience: “At Bury College we aim to inspire and motivate our students and we provide an aspirational ethos for all our learners. The opportunity for our students to participate in residential’s such as ‘Pathways to Success’ plays a key role in supporting them on their journey.
