Annual Mela Street Festival celebrates 42 years
Date published: 31 July 2016
The sun was shining on Freehold on Sunday afternoon (31 July) for the annual Mela Street Festival - celebrating 42 consecutive years.
Crowds gathered on the green off King Street South for an afternoon of live entertainment, rides and face painting, with a special fundraising raffle for Springhill Hospice.
Delicious Asian food was served up by local residents who came to enjoy the day with their families.
Organiser Dr Mohammed Salim says he can’t believe how quickly 42 years has passed.
He said: “We are so happy to be here celebrating our 42nd Mela Street Festival. It is now a huge part of the local community, people ask me every year about when the next one is. Let’s hope it will continue for years to come.”
