Hundreds of people enjoyed an outstanding display of horsemanship by the Devil's Horsemen stunt team at Middfest, Middleton's biggest event, on Sunday (24 July).

A story of adventure, drama, ambition and harsh justice was played out as they repulsed a murderous attack on the Deadwood Stage and its passengers by brutal robbing gunslingers.

The crowd clapped and cheered and children screamed and shouted with delight as the horsemen and women performed their daring tricks and stunts and had a mock gun battle with the 'bandits'.

One of the horses, Dante, being the horse which features on the Lloyd's Bank adverts, and one of the horsemen an ex-jockey.

With lots of other family entertainment it was a fun filled afternoon for people of all ages: bands performed on stage, children enjoyed the fairground and a dance competition, and there was a beer tent for adults.

Middleton Rotary Club had childrens' tombola, Long Street Methodist Church had games and a sweet stall and other organisation sold local produce and goods.

John Roe, chairman of organisers, Middleton Round Table, said: "This is the 16th year we have organised it and in spite of the on, off rain the sun shone and the weather was warm.

"You only realise how many people are here when the main acts are on and everyone comes to stand round the arena."
