Warriors to Warriors Marathon Walk Challenge

Georgia Turner, Olivia Turner, and two friends, Olivia Frian and Megan Dickinson are walking 26.4 miles from Littleborough Rugby Union Club (LRUFC) to the DW Stadium in Wigan in order to raise money for charity.

The girls all play for Littleborough Under 18s and Under 15s in addition to following Wigan Warriors at every game.

The idea for the marathon walk was birthed by the youngest of the four, Georgia Turner, who wanted to raise money for charity. The chosen charities are State of Mind Sport, for whom her mother Clair Carson is a trustee, and the Steve Prescott Foundation in memory of her great grandfather.

She will be joined by her sister, Olivia Turner, and two friends, Olivia Frian and Megan Dickinson. They have been training most nights in preparation for this mammoth task.

The girls, their parents and members of their club have been promoting the challenge via social media, the club page and their own donation pages. So far, they have had over £600 pledged in donations. They are hoping to increase this as they lead up to the challenge day.

The walk will take place on the 22 July and is just slightly longer than a traditional marathon, which is 26.2 miles.

The girls will leave LRUFC on Friday at 9.00am and hope to arrive at the DW Stadium by 7.00pm.

Wigan will be facing rival neighbours St Helens on this day. During half time, the girls will present ex-Wigan player and trustee for State of Mind, Danny Sculthorpe, with a cheque for the money raised.

Friends and families of the girls involved, as well as LRUFC, say they are very proud of their challenge and hope everyone will continue to support them.
