RedAid Family Fun Day

Thank you for your support at last weeks family fun day, which at the last count, had raised over £1000 for the cause to support students across the borough with special educational needs and disabilities who request funds for different activities or equipment. At the RED-AID AGM, plans were already being discussed for next years programme of events for families to become involved with during 2016/17.

Whole School Achievement Assembly

It was fantastic to see the Mayor and Mayoress, friends of the school, parents, carers and governors all taking part in the celebration assembly at the Gracie Fields Theatre.

The achievements of our young people is to be admired and the opportunity to see the signing performances, the various sporting awards, Showcase, drama groups, Redwoodian Awards and Sports Personality award was excellent.

The whole school celebratory mood continued with special packed lunches and students having the opportunity to take part in a disco and other creative activities. Well done to all the staff who planned this wonderful day.

Summer term parents consultation meetings – Parent View

The end of year report will be sent home in time for the parents meetings which will take place on Tuesday (KS3 ) and Wednesday (KS4 & 5) of next week between 3.30pm – 5.00pm. At the parents evening we will be asking parents / carers to complete a brief Parent View survey online which will be incorporated into a possible inspection in the near future and will give you to opportunity to give your views on aspects of the school`s development. More details will be sent home with the report. Thank you for your support with this.

Key Stage 4 Residential

Students in Years 10 & 11 have taken part in an exciting residential this week involving all types of activities including rock climbing, team work programmes and archery. Another great week had by all and thank you to the staff for your time and commitment.

Post 16 Activity Week

Groups of our Post 16 students have this week had the opportunities to use the facilities of Moorland Home for a variety of outdoor and lifeskills activities. Well done to those who have taken part.

Key Stage 3 Showcase

Thank you to parents / carers for your support earlier this week when the Showcase took place and gave students the opportunity to demonstrate their creative talents in drama, dance and performing arts scenarios.

KS3

On Tuesday the third and final ‘showcase’ of the year took place in KS3. Throughout the year as part of their Performing Arts lessons students have devised original work that they have performed to an audience of peers, family and friends at the end of each term.

Year 7 students based their performances on exploration of the musical elements whilst students in years 8 & 9 explored British Popular Music from the 1960’s and Shakespeare plays.

The performances included: a pantomime (oh yes it did..) a musical, dramatic dance, a number of plays and two songs from our newly formed rock band – “off your Rockers”

Once again our students have failed not to impress. Their talents and their attitudes to Performing Arts is excellent and I for one can’t wait to take it up a notch next year and aim higher and higher. Rock on guys..

Lynden, one of our students in year 7 has been putting his creative skills to the test in tutor times and has built a computer using lego and mottik. A lot of thought went into this project as it contains 11 computer components. A fabulous achievement Lynden. Well done.

KS4

A big congratulations to the winning staff tug o’ war team... Who will beat their reign of 4 straight wins? The bar has now been set and a challenge has been laid to our fellow houses.

A big thanks to all the staff, students and parents that attended and took part in the RED-AID Fun Day on Friday. It was a brilliant day and we managed to raise just over £1000.

4C have been investigating how forces can impact upon a marble within the classroom environment. They built tracks out of flexible piping and worked together to find out the answers.

KS5

All the 6th form students had a great time at this year’s RED-AID day. REEC students came over to help on the stalls and the rest of us helped out by spending lots of cash.

As part of the transition day activities, students were set the challenge of writing their names using only straight lines and circles, scissors and glue. We soon got to know each other and we are looking forward to welcoming in the new Year 12’s.

We have had some fantastic good news stories this week, Paul D has secured employment at Hollins and Newlands as their receptionist, Joshua W secured part time employment at The Real Trust as an admin assistant and is going to college. Mark D is working at Rochdale Bus Station and Ian T has secured employment in Kentmere as a kitchen assistant which he is loving.

The first year students from REEC went on a visit to the town hall in Rochdale to see where they will be based next year when they go on the Pre-internship. Whilst they were there they met the Mayor and Mayoress and got to watch the flag raising for the Armed Forces Day. The students enjoyed their visit and are looking forward to moving on to Pre-internship placements next September.
