Poppy picnic in Hare Hill Park

Date published: 07 July 2016

The second Poppy Picnic took place in Hare Hill Park on Sunday to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Children and adults have been creating poppies to place on the 'River of Poppies'. This year, the river of poppies flowed down Park Hill and continued along the grass at the side of the bandstand.

People were able to make a lasting keepsake poppy to take home at the Star Tree Studio stand courtesy of Friends of Hare Hill Park.

The Hare Hill Heroes opened up Hare Hill House for the occasion and displayed a number of 1940s artefacts and memorabilia. Many people were dressed up in wartime outfits

Entertainment was provided by the Boarshurst Silver Band.

Lisa Burke, from Friends of Hare Hill Park, said "It's been a terrific day. I'd really like to thank the people of Littleborough for enjoying the park and supporting the event."

"I'd especially like to thank all the children and adults who came down to create the magnificent river of poppies."
