Liz McInnes calls for further talks in junior doctor dispute

Date published: 08 July 2016

Liz McInnes, MP for Heywood and Middleton, has urged the Health Secretary to reopen talks with junior doctors in an effort to prevent further strike action and disruption for patients.

Ms Mcinnes' call comes after junior doctors voted to reject the new government contract and Jeremy Hunt MP, Secretary of State for Health, declared he would be imposing the deal regardless.

She said: "Junior doctors have voted by a clear majority to reject the government’s new contract.

"Rather than setting off on a course of conflict and aggression which could well lead to more strike action and inconvenience for patients, I urge the Health Secretary to think again about his decision to impose the deal and instead to urgently engage in talks with the British Medical Association and find a way forward.

"If the decision to force the new contract on junior doctors leads to more strikes, it will be entirely the fault of Jeremy Hunt and the government."
