The Statements have turned the streets of Rochdale into a set for their latest music video.

The Rochdale five-piece, who have just recorded their new album ‘Makin a Statement’, say that they are proud to be from the borough and hence why they filmed on the streets in the Kirkholt/Queensway area.

To give the video an extra edge, the group asked Kirkholt born film maker Gary Johnston, known locally for his midnight adventures on the Manchester canal looking for 'The Pusher', to film the video with them.

The Statements are a rock/indie band who have been together for 12 years and are set to play The Feel Good Festival this summer.

Their new single, ‘They Say’, is a song about moving forward away from negativity and, as they put it themselves, “dealing with things as they happen by just getting on with it”.

Guitarist Matt Nation, from Turf Hill, said: "We were adamant that we wanted to use a location in our town as we are proud of our humble beginnings and we wanted to show that not all to do with Rochdale is doom and gloom, like the fact five normal lads from modest backgrounds can produce something that is constructive and creative no matter what.”

Gary Johnston, who shot the video, said: “The video is the band's way of trying to put something positive back into the town after so much negative press. When they asked me to jump on board, I was more than happy to help.”

The statements first practised at Kirkholt Working Men’s Club and later at Turf Hill Community Centre, and have played at various venues around Rochdale, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.
