The Rochdale NSPCC Branch have been crowned NSPCC Branch of the Year at the charity’s first ever Childhood Champion Awards.
The Rochdale branch was presented with the award at The Banking Hall by Royal Patron of ChildLine and NSPCC President, HRH The Countess of Wessex, alongside ChildLine founder Dame Esther Rantzen and NSPCC Chief Executive Peter Wanless.
Established in 1890 as the Rochdale Aid Committee of the NSPCC, the present-day branch covers Rochdale, Heywood and Littleborough and raises around £35,000 a year for the children’s charity through fundraising events such as lunches, garden open days, treks and runs, flag days, cycling, carol singing, and much more - establishing themselves in the heart of the community.
Deborah Sefton, NSPCC Community Fundraising Manger for Greater Manchester, said: “The Rochdale branch members really do take NSPCC to their hearts. All branch members get their families involved to raise more money, with husbands completing world treks, children running marathons and grandchildren cycling.
“They seize opportunities, build fantastic relationships with the local community, showing commitment and passion; making a huge impact in the local area. On behalf of the NSPCC, I congratulate all the branch members on a thoroughly deserved award.”
The NSPCC Childhood Champion Awards recognise the dedication and commitment of its volunteers.
