Tasja Huntley warns women to be on their guard after car stalking incident

Date published: 06 July 2016

Tasja Huntley is warning women to be vigilant after she was followed from her home by a man trying to entice her into his car.

The 20-year-old Rochdale woman was walking from her home on Kensington Road towards Rochdale tram stop on Monday morning (4 July) when she was approached by a man of Asian appearance in a green Nissan Micra.

The man whistled at her and began to kerb crawl as she walked, telling her to get into the car and saying he could give her a lift.

Although Greater Manchester Police confirm that they were alerted to the incident and are investigating, they said that no crime was committed and therefore there is little that can be done.

Ms Huntley wants others to be on their guard when on the streets. She said: “He told me if I didn’t want to be late I’d get in the car with him.

“I started to walk faster when I realised he was behind me, but then he turned the corner and was coming closer so I started to panic a little bit. It was obvious by that point he wasn’t just going to drive straight on.

“It’s worrying. I’ve also heard it has happened a few times in the Rochdale area and it’s not good how it's not being addressed appropriately. I think more should be done even though a crime hasn’t been strictly committed.”

The car is understood to have followed Ms Huntley down Osborne Street before she finally got away and went for her tram.

She added: “The more people that know about this the better, because it could end up worse next time and it should be taken seriously.”

GMP is urging anyone with information to contact police on 101.
