Kind police officers praised for cleaning old lady’s house who had been trapped in her living room for days

Date published: 04 July 2016

Big-hearted police officers have been praised after they washed up, cleaned up and made a nice cup of tea for a disabled woman who had been trapped in her living room for days.

The elderly woman from Castleton got stuck when her mobility scooter blocked the doorway and she was too weak to move it.

The police were alerted to her situation and came to her rescue at 2.00pm on Saturday afternoon (2 July), to find she was in a state of distress in behind the scooter.

Having seen the woman’s situation, the officers decided to sit her down and make her a nice cup of tea while they swept her floors and even did the washing up.

GMP Rochdale said: “Two of our officers attended an address in Castleton after a vulnerable lady called us when she had got stuck in her wheelchair. When they attended it was clear the lady had been stuck there for a few days.

“The house was very untidy and she hadn't been able to get in to her bedroom.

“The officers contacted relevant agencies.

“The two officers then swept and cleaned the bedroom and living room. Cleaned the kitchen and did the washing up. Made her a much needed cup of tea and then helped the lady in to her bed so she could get well deserved sleep and rest.

“Sometimes it's not all about chasing the bad guys.”
