Drivers urged to check traffic conditions after motorway incidents

Date published: 04 July 2016

Drivers using the motorway network in Greater Manchester are being advised to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys today after serious incidents this morning (Monday, 4 July 2016).

Two incidents on the M62 are currently being tackled by the emergency services and Highways England.

The M62 between junction 20 at Oldham and junction 21 at Milnrow is totally closed following a serious collision at 9.35am. The road is likely to be closed for several hours as Greater Manchester Police is undertaking an incident investigation.

Highways England traffic officers have been working to manage traffic and help free drivers stuck behind the incidents.

The North West Regional Control Centre at Newton-le-Willows and at the National Traffic Control Centre at Quinton near Birmingham have set electronic message signs across the local, regional and national motorway network to advise drivers of the incidents and delays.

Drivers are advised to avoid the M62 until the road has re-opened by taking an alternative route or delaying journeys.

Drivers should check travel conditions before setting out on journeys. Highways England provides live traffic information via its website www.trafficengland.com, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile apps.

Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 to keep up to date with road conditions.
