The go kart track set up by Team Karting on the Spotland Stadium car park proved a very popular attraction at the Rochdale Hornets Family Fun Day.

Team Karting's Matty Street said: “It’s a great event, I went to get something from the car and came back and there was a queue of people waiting to have a go.

"It's good to get out and meet new people and show off what we have.”

BBQ food and alcohol free cocktails were available from a 'Meat Shack' provided by The Flying Horse.

Flying Horse owner Ben Boothman said: It’s a good day, and the sun is shining.

"It’s the first day out for our new ‘Meat Shack’ - we are doing pulled pork, brisket and lamb.”

Families enjoyed numerous activities in the family fun zone, including paintball/air soft range, children's rides and stalls as well as inflatables.

Hornets Sporting Foundation activities included the wheelchair team hosting relay races and a half back challenge.

Rochdale Hornets chairman Mark Wynn said: “We are really happy with the event, we would like to do more of this.

"Rugby is a family sport, so it’s good to get families together and involved like this.”

In the rugby league game that followed, Hornets beat Keighley Cougars having returned to Spotland Stadium after their mid-season mini tour while work was carried out on the Spotland pitch.
