The streets of Darnhill were buzzing with energy (2 July) as crowds gathered for the annual Darnhill Festival.

Supporting this year’s theme of ‘the water cycle’, children dressed up as everything from rain clouds to deep sea creatures and took to the streets for an energetic parade.

Mayor Ray Dutton was seen dancing along with a drum circle and enjoying the day as well as meeting and greeting all the locals who welcomed him to the celebration.

Despite the constantly changing weather from rain, wind to glorious sunshine, the crowds enjoyed themselves throughout and stayed around for a fete with hair braiding, market stalls and live entertainment from Skylight Circus.

Mayor Dutton said: “We’ve just seen a fantastic parade featuring local Brownie and Rainbow groups, Heap Bridge and Our Lady’s schools, Chrysalis and Skylight Arts. Artists Barbara, Sarah and Adel worked on the parade along with dancers Trixi and Claire, and at the back of the parade was the water cycle created by Julian Taylor and Love Your Bike.

“It has been a wonderful day – a big thank you to everyone who has supported the festival with time or funding, it wouldn’t have been possible without you, and of course it wouldn’t have been possible without all the people who have come to enjoy the day with us.”

Speaking at the festival, Liz McInnes said: "The Darnhill Festival is a fantastic event for the local community and it’s great to see so many people enjoying themselves and trying all the different activities on offer. Darnhill Festival Association, Cartwheel Arts and all the volunteers and groups involved deserve huge credit for making it happen, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s event."

Organised by Cartwheel Arts, in conjunction with Darnhill Festival Association, the Darnhill Festival is now in its 13th year.
