Heartless burglars ransack Springhill Hospice charity shop weeks after opening

Date published: 29 June 2016

“Heartless” burglars have smashed their way into a Springhill Hospice charity shop just weeks after it opened.

Tools are believed to have been used to smash through the metal doorframe and break the glass and then made off with a TV.

The store, known as the Emporium on the corner of Molesworth Street and Milnrow Road, has only been open since 10 June, and the break in has caused upset among volunteers who work tirelessly for the charity.

Sarah-Lee Ford, the Hospice’s income services manager, said: “You can imagine what it was like turning up on Monday morning to see this. It looks like they’d used a crowbar to get in and then just ransacked the place.

“It’s not the cost of the TV that matters to us, or even the cost of the damage, it’s the fact that we have all these volunteers working so hard to make the Hospice what it is and then for this to happen.

“We get generous donations from the public of valuable stock and then these people just come in and do this.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to the incident and that enquiries are ongoing.
