Ged Heatherington elected new president of Rotary Club of Middleton

Date published: 29 June 2016

Ged Heatherington has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Middleton for 2016-2017.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Mr Heatherington said: “My key message is that I want every Middleton Club Rotarian and supporter to take an active part in some way in the projects the club have planned for the next 12 months.

“I am certain that by utilising people’s life, technical skills as well as their physical resource, this will maximise our Rotary efforts.

“To ensure club projects happen effectively, the club will be moving to having Project Leaders and a supporting team for each project undertaken.

“Our support to the Rotary global eradication of polio initiative, i.e. 'End Polio Now', will continue unabated.

“By utilising local websites and social media, we are looking to raise awareness of how Rotarians are engaging with the Middleton community and subsequently how the community can provide support with our efforts to change lives.”

Mr Heatherington will be taking over the role from past president Sue Furby.

Ms Furby said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as President of Rotary Middleton and thank the members for their support throughout the year. It has been another extremely successful year in which we have supported many local and international projects.

“I'd like to thank the people of Middleton, who once again supported our Christmas float, raising over £8,000 for local causes.

“My two charities for the year, Ovacome (ovarian cancer) and Communic8te (deaf and hearing impaired) will be presented with cheques for £1,000 and £500 respectively later in the year, and again my thanks to all the people who supported my fundraising music evening, to Network Rail which raised £400 and to those who made personal donations too.

“I wish Ged Heatherington all the best for his year and know that the club will continue to support local and global communities in the best way we can.”

Mr Heatherington will be supported by President Elect Janice Powell.
