Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 27 June 2016

The Maths Happiness month was launched on Monday, with an assembly led by Mrs Terry. The following day, children shared some wonderful ideas about what made them happy. Most of these centred around family and friends, with very few of their ideas costing anything.

They have since gone on to consider how they could make other people happy and have begun planning their ideas for the Happiness Fair next week. As usual, we have been amazed by our fantastic children who have contributed some really thought provoking ideas throughout their discussions.

On Monday the British Values Community Cohesion Ambassadors from Hamer and Marland Hill attended a Rochdale LA refugee celebration event.

At the event there were some of the amazing children in our communities, who quite recently arrived as refugees and are currently at Wardle High school, they told stories of their journeys and their relief at finally being safe in Rochdale. Our children learned a lot from refugees brave experiences and positive outlooks on life despite everything that they had been through.

Thank you to all parents who have attended the reading sessions on Friday afternoons with Mrs Hoyle and Miss Bradshaw. We hope parents have enjoyed the sessions and have new ideas about how they can help their children to learn at home. Please can you pass your completed questionnaires to Miss Bradshaw as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, Mr Nadin and Miss Coward took our ukulele group to a morning workshop at Heybrook School. They were joined by a variety of musical groups from across the IPLCN, who all came together to perform several shared pieces of music. They then went on to perform individually as schools, with our children performing the theme music from Star Wars. Everyone in attendance had a fabulous time and we would like to thank Heybrook for organising this event.

The School Sports Day was held on Thursday, The children had a fabulous time and it was lovely to see so many parents cheering them on. Thank you to Miss Holden for organising the day and thank you to the weather for smiling down upon us.

We recently carried out a parent voice exercise across school. As a result of responses around concerns about e-safety, we will be holding a parent drop in session at 9am on Wednesday 29 June. The session will be held in the Surestart room at the front of school and our IT co-ordinator (Mr Nadin) and our pastoral manager (Hazel Coward) will be on hand to offer advice and guidance on this matter. Please can parents try to attend if you have any concerns or questions.
