Hollingworth Academy at Debate Mate cup final

Date published: 22 June 2016

Aidan Cross, Owen Cross, Maeve Glenn and Carenza Spence, the Hollingworth Academy debating team, tested their skills against the best in the country at the Debate Mate cup final in London.

The team secured convincing victories over Bradley Stoke Community School from Bristol, and The Bramcote School from Nottingham, losing only one debate all day to the eventual champions, Parliament Hill School from London to finished in fifth position, the highest from the North-West and claimed a top-five finish in a competition contested by over four-hundred schools.

As a reward for their efforts, the participants were invited to a glamorous reception at the Ham Yard Hotel in Central London where, after meeting and greeting various dignitaries, they viewed the day’s final debate.
