Heywood Guiding groups raise funds for camping kit

Date published: 20 June 2016

Three Girlguiding units from Heywood united for a weekend-long bag pack at Morrisons supermarket in Heywood, in order to raise money for new tents and camping equipment.

Girls from 4th Heywood Brownies, 9th Heywood Guides, and Heywood Senior Section, who all meet at St Luke’s Scout Hut on Starkey Street, are hoping to get away on camping trips more often with the purchase of new tents and other vital camping kit.

The fundraising started on the evening of Friday 10 June and ended Sunday 12 June and the total raised  £1881.66.

Brownie Stephanie Barker, aged eight, said: “I have really enjoyed bag packing this weekend. I was a little nervous at first, but the lady on the checkout helped me so I was able to relax and talk to the customers.

"We have raised so much money and I can’t wait to use our new tents.”

Senior Section Member, Jordan Fishburn, aged 15, said: “The girls have worked very hard this weekend, it’s been lovely to interact with the community.”

Rachel Weekes, Leader of 4th Heywood Brownies said: "We would like to thank Morrisons for allowing us to come in and bag pack. I'd also like to thank the generous public who have given donations to the girls. We will now be able to take the girls away and give them new experiences."

Andrew Weekes, Unit Helper with 4th Heywood Brownies added: "It has been great to see the Brownies, Guides and Senior Section mingle with each other, the staff of Morrisons and the customers."
