Heywood Senior Section learn barista skills

Date published: 20 June 2016

Young women from Heywood are joining thousands of fellow Girlguiding Members up and down the UK for a spectacular year of celebration to mark 100 years of Girlguiding’s Senior Section.

The Heywood Senior Section is embarking on a bonanza of girl-led activities, events and challenges as they join the fun of the Senior Section Spectacular – and complete Girlguiding’s special challenge badge for the year, Mission Spectacular.

The latest of these activities for the group was an evening training to be a Barista – at Heywood coffee shop Bearded Baristas. Jensen Forshaw, a Barista at the coffee shop showed the girls how to work the coffee machines and a whole range of other Barista skills. In return, he was presented with one of the unit’s neckerchiefs.

Katie Bevan, aged 19, said: “I loved and enjoyed learning a new skill. I found the whole evenings fun and really interesting.”

Charlotte Quinn, aged 17, said: “Learning a new skill that I know will help me for future work whilst also having fun was a great experience. I am thoroughly enjoying the creative take that our Senior Section is taking on Mission Spectacular.”

Senior Section Volunteer Leader, Beth Tennant said: “A really enjoyable and informative evening, in relaxed and pleasant surroundings. I will never look at coffee shops in the same way ever again.”
