EU Referendum at Redwood

We cannot miss the coverage in the media at the moment regarding the EU Referendum next week and quite rightly, it has generated some discussions with some students. With this in mind, and to give students the option to take part in a democratic process, we will be holding our own referendum in school.Y11 Parent / Carer Visit Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre ( REEC )

Thank you to those parents and carers who took the opportunity to visit REEC this week as part of the preparation for the transition into Post 16 Extended Education. It provided an opportunity to meet the staff and students currently working there, sample the Post 16 working environment which lends itself to a focus on employability skills and independence and to have a taster of the curriculum opportunities on offer as we continue to prepare our youngsters for adulthood. Thank you for your support.

RedAid Family Fun Day – 1 July

A reminder that our family fun day will take place on Friday 1 July and the team would be most grateful for donations to the cause. To support this, we will be holding a non - uniform day on Friday 24 June where students can wear their own clothes for a donation to the cause. Thank you for your support with this.

KS4
Miss Wilkinson’s Friday afternoon creative group made owls and creatures from felt.
The ALG group went to The Burrs in Bury for a three day residential. Whilst there they did archery, climbing, kayaking, raft building and lots of team building games. The students had a fabulous time.

KS5
Students enjoy a great week on the residential at Calvert Trust in the Lake District.
KS3
This week’s assembly was all about Physical Abuse, pupils watched a short video from the NSPPC and answered questions in a sensitive manner. Pupils know who is on the Safeguarding Team in school and understand that they can talk to them or any of their teachers in school.

The dance group performed in Gracie Fields Theatre along with 12 other groups from the local area and from Edge Hill University. The dance show brought together people of all ages and abilities to showcase the history of and what we like about Rochdale.
The young people were amazing on the night and really enjoyed the experience. Well done to them all.

KS3 students took part in the Kwik Cricket event held at Middleton Cricket Club. Luckily the rain didn’t stop play and the students played three games against other schools. KS3 were fantastic and won two out of the three games. It was a great display of team work and all students came away with a certificate and big smiles for winning 2nd place in the competition.

The Lilac class conducted their own science experiment with ICE. The children were able to watch the ice melt and play with it. It really cooled us down.
