John Lord in ‘end-to-end’ walking challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and Springhill Hospice

Date published: 16 June 2016

John Lord is walking over 1,200 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Mr Lord, 61, from Littleborough, is hoping to raise as much money as possible in order to help Prostate Cancer UK and Springhill Hospice.

He started his walk on 17 April and so far has covered over 700 miles. He is expecting to complete the walk around the middle of July.

Mr Lord said: “I have thought about walking from end-to-end for a few years and it seemed a good idea to try and link it to raising funds for these two charities.

"Prostate Cancer is obviously an important male issue. Relatives, friends and colleagues have suffered from the disease and it would be great to help Prostate UK defeat it.”

“Springhill Hospice provides an important service for the people of Rochdale and surrounding areas. Whilst it receives some income from the NHS, 70% of the £3 million running costs need to come from fundraising within the local community and it is great to be able to help in this way.”

“I am now more than half way to completing the walk and am looking forward to arriving in John O’Groats. I’m delighted to be raising awareness and much needed money to help beat prostate cancer and help Springhill.”
