Muslims urged to donate to food bank during fast

Date published: 16 June 2016

Dr Zahid Chauhan, a local GP, has urged those observing Ramadan to donate meals they may be missing to their local food bank.

A partner at the Dale Street Medical Practice at Nye Bevan House, Dr Chauhan believes that Ramadan is a period of empathy and action and a call to help those in greatest need, as well as a time of fasting, prayer and increased devotion.

Dr Chauhan said: “I genuinely believe that the best way of balancing your mind and feeling good about yourself is to help others.

“You can of course do this all year round but Ramadan, with its call to care for those less fortunate, is the perfect opportunity for Muslims to take practical action.

"Charities and community organisations are struggling under the weight of need and are desperate for our support.

"For Muslims, Ramadan is about far more than food and those who are or who are not able to fast can discover its real meaning by being generous and charitable to others.”
