Eastbound M62 near Rochdale partially closed following collision

Date published: 15 June 2016

Drivers are being urged to avoid the eastbound M62 from Greater Manchester into West Yorkshire following a serious collision earlier today (Wednesday, 15 June) which requires a police incident investigation.

The incident happened between junction 21 and junction 22 of the motorway at about 6.30am when 2 lorries were involved in a collision. Only lane 4 of the eastbound carriageway is currently open and drivers are being urged to avoid the area by delaying journeys or seeking alternative routes. The westbound carriageway was closed briefly to allow an air ambulance to land but has now re-opened.

The police investigation is likely to take several hours with recovery and repair work following that.

Highways England traffic officers from the outstation at Milnrow are on the motorway helping to manage traffic. Colleagues at the North West Regional Control Centre near Warrington and at the National Traffic Operations Centre near Birmingham have set electronic signs across the local, regional and national motorway network to advise drivers of the incident

Drivers are urged to check travel conditions before setting out on journeys. Highways England provides live traffic information via its website www.trafficengland.com, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone. Information is also available from Twitter via @highwaysNWEST as well as services in other regions.

Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 to keep up to date with road conditions.
