Hollingworth students working with St. John’s College, University of Cambridge

This year Hollingworth Academy have worked closely in collaboration with St. John’s College, University of Cambridge to challenge some of their school’s most talented and hardworking students who share a passion for learning.

Last July, at the beginning of the new academic year, a group of female mathematicians attended a maths enrichment day, “Women Count”. The students were put through their paces, attended maths lectures and met female maths professors.

In April Hollingworth Academy hosted a series of academic workshops, for year 10 students, topics were as diverse as medical research and the history of the Asyrian Empire.

Later in the evening, Hollingworth was the host for a borough wide initiative providing Parents/Carers with information, advice and guidance on applications to and life at Cambridge University.

In May, a group of year 10 students, with a passion for Physics, attended an enrichment event for talented, budding scientists. It was hosted in the world renowned and prestigious Cavendish laboratory, 29 Cavendish researchers have won Nobel prizes.

Planning is underway for a residential trip to St. John’s College in September. A group of Year 10 students, from a variety of curriculum disciplines will be invited to attend academic sessions from doctorate candidates and current lecturers, teaching at Cambridge University.
