Big increase in burglaries in past week – police warn to lock up and stay safe

Date published: 10 June 2016

Police are warning residents to “do everything in their power” to protect their homes after another spate of burglaries around the borough.

Officers reported that a staggering 16 burglaries have taken place since last Friday in the Rochdale East area alone, and seven in the Rochdale North area.

Three other burglaries which occurred in the Marland area in the early hours of Friday morning are also being investigated by Greater Manchester Police. One individual is being hunted for those three after officers said it is likely they are connected.

GMP Rochdale North urged residents to tighten security and make sure everything possible is done to not attract burglars: “Rochdale North areas have suffered seven burglaries since last Friday whilst Rochdale East areas have suffered a staggering 16 burglaries.

“Do everything in your power to make your home secure enough to keep them out.

"With the resources we have please be rest assured we are working tirelessly to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice. Please try your best to not become a victim.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police added: “The weather is getting warmer but please remember to lock all windows and doors when you are not in the room.

“Taking seconds out of your day to make sure your home is secure could prevent you from becoming a victim of burglary.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 872 5050 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
