Hollingworth Academy in Barcelona

Date published: 10 June 2016

During May half term this year 39 Hollingworth Academy pupils and staff travelled to the Costa Brava coastline of Spain to take part in a football activity week. We stayed The Gran Europe Hotel located in a small Spanish village called Coma Ruga about 80 kilometres from Barcelona.

Hollingworth Academy took three teams over to Spain; two boys’ teams and one girls’ team and during our stay we took part in some traditional Spanish training techniques, playing football matches over three evening’s matches against some local teams.

Although our pupils tried their best, our host’s superior football talent shone through. It was nice to see however, the team spirit between the Hollingworth Academy pupils and Spanish player’s which was clearly demonstrating football has no boundaries in bringing people together and making new friends.

We also tested our driving skills at a local go-karting track, where the pupils really enjoyed trying to beat the teaching staff and becoming the next Lewis Hamilton.

One of the highlights of the trip is to visit Porta – Ventura theme park and Waterpark over two days, where we had the opportunity of riding some of fastest rollercoasters in the world like Sambala and Furious Baco.

At the water park some lazed around the lazy river while some tested their nerve on the white knuckle water slides.

We also found time for some beach activities like beach volleyball or playing in the sea riding the waves or simply relaxing and topping up on the tan.
