Festival goers reminded to plan their Parklife travel
Festival goers are reminded that Metrolink will be running later services on the Bury line for this weekend’s Parklife event.
Up to 75,000 music fans are expected to travel to Heaton Park for the annual Parklife festival this Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June.
Metrolink will run later services on the Bury line only to help people get back into the city centre. Customers should aim to catch the tram into the city from the Bowker Vale stop before 1am and allow queuing time.
There will be some changes to Metrolink services at the weekend due to Parklife, with the Eccles service running through to Ashton and the Rochdale service running to Exchange Square.
Getting to and from Parklife will be easy thanks to the flexible Parklife Travel Pass that allows travel by both Metrolink and a dedicated Parklife Express shuttle bus service for £5 a day.
By bus
Parklife Express services are likely to be the fastest and easiest way to get to and from the festival. Buses will run direct from Aytoun Street in the city to the festival between 9.30am and 5pm (Saturday) 10.30am and 5pm (Sunday) and from the festival site between 6.30pm and around 1am. Tickets can be booked in advance and need to be exchanged for a wristband.
By Metrolink
Parklife festivalgoers can travel to the Heaton Park Metrolink stop but any return journeys after 9pm have to be made from the nearby Bowker Vale stop, which has much better queuing facilities for crowds. Heaton Park stop will be closed from 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.
By car or taxi
Driving to Parklife is not recommended as there will be very limited parking available, no on-street parking and road closures around Heaton Park. There will be a designated hackney and private hire ranks at the nearby Sainsbury’s and from the Sheepfoot Lane car park.
By foot
Public transport will be busy once the show is over, so if you prefer to walk to the city centre there will be a signposted walking route. The walk is estimated to take around an hour – just follow the signs along Bury Old Road (west of Heaton Park), Middleton Road (East of Heaton Park) and Sheepfoot Lane (South of Heaton Park), via Bury Old Road and Cheetham Hill Road into the city.
By bike
If you want to get to Parklife on two wheels you’ll be able to leave your bike at the cycle rack in the car park.
Anyone travelling home beyond the city centre on Saturday or Sunday should also check when their last tram from the city leaves and expect those services to be very busy.
