Children at Roch Valley Raiders BMX Club have spoken of their sadness after cruel thieves broke in and made off with £5000 of pounds worth of bikes.
The Heywood club was targeted overnight on Saturday (4 June) after thieves broke into an isolated container close to Queens Park, Heywood, and smashed a lock box to gain entry.
A wacker plate and generator were also taken from the site.
Since the burglary, a fundraising page has been set up to replace the bikes and has so far reached £750.
Yvonne Lorraine Mills who works at the club said: “The kids are devastated. It’s not the first time that we’ve been targeted but it means that we once again have to turn young riders away from out coaching and training sessions.
“These bikes are used by riders either new to the sport or those who are not able to afford their own bikes yet.
“Our club is in the heart of the community, based in a local park. The club maintains the track using money raised by its members. Our members range from age four years to 50+ and compete at regional, national and world level. Any donation no matter how small will make a big difference.”
She added: “People have been so generous and we are really thankful for their support.”
