Six jailed for selling shoddy kitchens for businessman Vance Miller

Date published: 08 June 2016

Six people have been put behind bars for selling shoddy and unusable kitchens on behalf of businessman Vance Miller – who still walks free and lives in Asia.

Thousands of pounds were forked out by unsuspecting customers after a shameless online advertising campaign claimed the kitchens were of celebrity standard. Instead of state of the art units, customers instead received shoddy, broken items that had been made cheaply in China.

Vance Miller’s business was hidden under various business names to hide responsibility, but Trading Standards eventually brought the enterprise down after hundreds of complaints from around the country.

All six people were working under Miller’s instruction between 2010 and 2015 while he was abroad.

  • David Hourigan, 41, of Ramsey Drive, Bacup, did most of the work for Miller. He has been jailed for 18 months.
  • Martin Sersen, 24, of Jacob Bright Mews, Rochdale has been jailed for 15 months.
  • Miller’s ex-girlfriend Nicola Brodie, 39, of Churchill Street, Rochdale, was given a year behind bars.
  • Kitchen salesman Richard Brundrett, 41, of Peel Drive, Bacup, has been jailed for nine months.
  • Miller’s online marketing campaigner, Matthew Leak, 23, who published various fake reviews online, has been jailed for four months.
  • PA Karen Stocks has been jailed for nine months.

Miller, 51, is originally from Rochdale but is believed to be living in Asia and so far is walking free.
