Councillors meet for “thank you” meal for residents

Date published: 07 June 2016

Councillors met up at Deeplish Community Centre on Saturday for a celebratory “thank you” meal for residents following May’s local elections.

The Labour councillors met in the sunshine outside the Hare Street centre to share a bite to eat with the locals and also discuss the plans for a solar panel on the roof of the building.

Former councillor and local resident Imtiaz Hussain got busy in the kitchen to provide the food whilst the others enjoyed a conversation and raised some funds for the solar panel.

Kingsway Councillor Shakil Ahmed said: “It is fantastic to see how many people came to enjoy the food, indeed the highlight of the day, by Imtiaz Hussain, but also important funds were raised for Deeplish Community Centre and their ambitious plans to get a solar panel put on the roof.”

“The councillors all made short speeches about what they would like to do for their wards and their local residents.

"It was a great day.”
