A touch of spice for 'Help for Heroes'

Date published: 01 June 2016

Shefali and Farooq Ahmed have raised £200 for 'Help for Heroes'.

Shefali Ahmed said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported us for this good cause 'Help for Heroes'.

"We are really looking forward for the 1940s weekend and we hope we can continue to support the town.

"Special thanks to Heywood Business Group and the organisers who have put this event together.”

During the Second World War, India was controlled by the United Kingdom. The British Raj, as part of the Allied Nations, sent over two and a half million volunteer soldiers to fight under British command. This year Jazba Indian Bar & Spice Grill is putting up a feast of mutton and potato curry with rice and sesame naan bread which was a recipe used back in the 1940s for the Indian Army.

Arm Forces represented Councillor Alan McCathy said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Farooq and Shefali from JazBa for their support for ‘Help for Heroes’ and their part in fundraising. Welcome back to Heywood to the both, they were much missed.”

Local businesses and residents are organising various different activities for all the family for the 1940s weekend on Saturday 18 June. 1940s Weekend has been becoming more popular each year since it was first organised by Heywood Business Group.
