Fire crew with the rescued kitten
A kitten which had been stuck up a 70ft tree for two days was rescued by firefighters and reunited with its owner.
Police officers closed off the top end of Bamford Road in Heywood, and the area near the Brown Cow pub, as fire crews erected an aerial appliance to remove the kitten, which was clinging to a top branch of the tree.
The RSPCA had put a request in to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service after the owner had become distressed about the welfare of her pet.
A spokesperson said: “Crews needed to use an aerial appliance to lift the cat down safely which is why a few vehicles were on site. The owner had become distressed and it was in everyone’s interests to make sure the cat was safe.
“Crews were called at 11.09 and the cat has now been safely returned to the owner.”
