Holy Family RC and CE College raise £800 for St Joseph’s Penny Appeal

Date published: 27 May 2016

Pupils from Holy Family RC and CE College Heywood raised £800 to support St Joseph’s Welfare.

Many of the pupils of Holy Family RC and CE College Heywood celebrated mass with Chaplain Father Alfred Rebello. After mass, students presented a cheque to Mark Wiggin, CEO of Caritas Diocese of Salford.

The funds were raised by the pupils as part of their commitment to supporting the St Joseph’s Penny Appeal, one of the longest running charities in the Diocese of Salford that began in 1904 to help poor and disadvantaged children. Fundraising undertaken by Holy Family RC and CE College will help this legacy to continue.

Caritas Salford helps hundreds of families and children through a wide range of services including family support and foster care.

Thanking the pupils, Mark Wiggin, said: “Today there are many families in need. One of the main causes of poverty and homelessness is family breakdown where people stop talking to each other. Communicating and talking to each other is the best way to keep your friends and family together.

"We are grateful for the fundraising efforts of Holy Family RC and CE College. Over the years Holy Family RC and CE College have raised thousands of pounds for good causes. We are proud of this achievement and the positive relationship with the school.”

Pupils fundraised by completing sponsored events, hosting a cake sale and a talent show. All students of Holy Family RC and CE College were involved through their form groups.

Wendy Hobson, from Holy Family RC and CE College, gave special mention to Edrine Spencer, she said: “Edrine Spencer raised the most through a sponsored run.”
